HELP mic wont work

my internal mic stops working after i plug in my headphones into the jack. at first people told me it was because my aux cord i use to plug in my head phones had a mic on it and it was messing up the computers settings. after buying a new one with out a mic and fumbling around with the settings and getting no where i called technical suport and they didnt do anything. my mic used to work just fine, because i was using a usb headset. and when i unplug my headphones, the mic works just fine when i use my computers speakers. i dont understand and i need my mic for skype calls for my buisness. please help.

there are 2 jacks on laptops, 1 is for the speakers & the other is for the mic so which 1 did you use for the mini plug headphones?
