help with a new computer

I am going to be a college student this fall, in my junior year. I currently had a HP-G62 laptop which was a replacement for a tower which crashed, however convenient a laptop may be, I hate it and want a tower again. I need some insight as to which direction to go for a new desktop tower. I am mainly going to use the desktop for internet/office applications/research/music, I am not a gamer so the graphics isn't too important to me. I would however like to be able to hook the tower up to my TV (rather than having to buy a monitor), so an HDMI output would be ideal. I have a budget under $700. I have been looking at 2 different towers: 1- HP - Pavilion Desktop - 8GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive & 2- HP - ENVY Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 12GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive. I am leaning towards the ENVY because it has an i5 processor. Im wondering if anyone has any input on either of these computers, or any other computer that may be worth looking at? Just steer clear of HP and Dell. Lots of problems, no after sales service, can't upgrade them.
