Solved! help with TCL 55R617 tv with polk audio soundbar connected with optical toslink

i got both of these devices, and I now realize that the TCL tv uses an RF based remote, while the polk soundbar uses IR.

the polk soundbar can learn tv remote signals, but only from IR based remotes, so it will not learn from the TCL remote.

am i truly stuck with using the polk remote for volume, and the tv for everything else? or is there any way to get around this? is there a universal remote that can support both IR and RF? can i use hdmi arc converter to optical to get the audio signal from the tv to the soundbar (and would it adjust the volume on the soundbar when it is adjusted on the tv?)

just trying to avoid 2 remotes if possible

Using an ARC to optical won't work for you. You need a soundbar with HDMI-ARC built in for that to help.
It seems that there are some IR codes for at least basic functions (power, volume, input) for that TV on cable box remotes.
