Is your cable system digital?
Your TV has to have a QUAM digital tuner built in. You would need to select cable and run a channel scan before you could tune any channels. The number of channels you can get without some kind of box from the cable provider is limited in most cases.
If the TV doesn't have a tuner your cable company will provide you a digital adapter or cable box (at your cost ).
