I have an Alienware and I can't seem to find the problem with the sound because every time I try to hear music and every time I plug in my headphones I can still hear the music from the laptop speakers as well as my headphones. I have tried everything please help. If you can respond fast that would be so great thank you so much for taking time out of your day to help me.

Solution
If your external speakers/headphones aren't working, try the following...

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. Click on "Sound".
3. Make sure you are on the "Playback" tab.
4. Click on the device you are trying to fix.
5. Now click the "Configure" button and follow the prompts. (Be sure you also click the "Test" button.)
6. Once that is complete, click the "Properties" button.
7. When you are done with your changes, in "Properties", click "Apply" and then "OK".
8. Then click "OK", again, on the main "Sound window".

Well, it will depend on what type of "headphones" it is. If it is just earbuds, then do what webworkings said. If it is actually a headset, using a USB connection, it's as simple as muting the laptop sound before plugging the headphones/headset in - the speakers and the USB sound use different volume settings.
