Make and model numbers would help us help you.
Your PC probably has VGA output. If your TV doesn't have a VGA input it likely has component video input via 3 RCA plugs. This is not the same as RGB (unless your TV has a way to set the input to RGB). If your TV has a way to select RGB in one of the menus you just need a cable with vga at one end and 3 RCA plugs at the other.

If it doesn't you will need a converter

My computer has a standard 15 pin, (5 pins in 3 rows) pc connection. The tv has component red green blue connection, with a red and white audio below it. I've purchased a cable that connects the pc to tv but the Windows welcome screen is the only thing that appears when I turn it on. I think maybe I need to change some of the computer settings, as it recognises there is a desperate monitor attached but nothing appears? Greatly appreciate the help.
