Ok, so you have a new TV and an older receiver with no HDMI, correct??

If that is correct what you need to do is connect all source devices (so your blu-ray player, game console, dvr box, etc) to the TV (preferably with HDMI) and then connect TV to receiver with Toslink optical cable (the one labeled TV-SAT on receiver)

Then you need to look at manuals, set TV to output audio to optical, and set receiver input to the optical input.
