trying to hook up a newer dvd player from 2015, samsung model number BD-JM51 with only hdmi output to an older tv from 2003 with no hdmi, only rca and something called color stream HD1 and HD2 which i would assume would be where the component cables hook into, toshiba model number 51H83, serial number 95843754.
i have tried an hdmi to 5rca adapter but it only has Y/W/R/G/B which doesnt appear to be what i need since i get no video or sound from either, i have tried just hooking up the Y/W/R into the output but still nothing.
is there any possible way for me to get these two to work together

Solution
HDMI is digital and the R/W/Y cables are analogue. you will need an active signal converter simple cables will no do.

example only not an endorsement
does the TV have a DVI input. if so you can get one of these. again example only not an endorsement

the downfall to this is you will need to use the optical audio out for audio as DVI does not carry audio

the port nearest the center of the unit is the DAO (Digital audio Out) it is just a standard RCA cable like the ones on the W/R/Y.

The TV does not have an input for Digital Audio that I can find. so you would need either a receiver/stereo with an digital audio in and use that for the audio device.
or
something like this: not an endorsement, example only
https://www.amazon.com/Coaxial-Converter-Support-Set-top-iParaAiluRy/dp/B01LY4SC2T/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1481510178&sr=1-12&keywords=coaxial+digital+audio+to+RCA
this will take the HDMI output from the BD player and separate the audio signal, and convert it to analogue via the 3.5mm jack.
The TV and the player are just || that far away from working with each other.

Side note, I hooked my computer up to it via dvi and it displays my desktop so I'm guessing I got sent a bad box or something since I tried with two different dvi cables and they both work with the computer

I had not tried that yet, I will do that as soon as I get home. I just thought it was weird that I could get sound and no display but it works just fine connected to the computer but it was blurry
