Hooking up new TV to old receiver

I have an Element ELST5016S that I am trying to hook up to a Yamaha RX-V550 receiver.

I can't get the sound to work. I thought using the Optical output from the TV would take care of it, but it's not working.

That TV has an optical output (square black plastic at the bottom of the side inputs) and the Yamaha has three optical inputs. A cable like this -- https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022904&p_id=2764&seq=1&format=2 is all you need.
