your can connect one of the digital audio outs to the receiver. The only down side is that you will not get the lossless audio that is available on BD discs only over HDMI.
If you have sufficient HDMI inputs on your TV you can connect that to your receiver instead of using an outboard switch.
You can't add a function to a receiver, you need to replace it. Converters won't help you at all since the inputs on it limit the resolution. You can still use it for sound processing, just not video.
