I found this guide (http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-2316460/moving-apps-card-samsung-galaxy.html) but with my current software update, everything is changed around and there doesn't seem to be an option to move anything to the sd card. Is this Samsung's strategy to get me to buy a new phone, or is there still a way to utilize my available 40GB+ of sd storage?

Well, many manufacturers have made running apps from a SD card not possible. Even if you are running Android "Marshmallow", which is the version that supports changing the SD card from "External" to "Internal" storage. Now the info you read is for individual apps to move, and of course only if that app can be moved. However you would have needed to set up the SD card to allow for the change (mentioned before) to move most apps. I am including that info here as well. If yours will not allow for this change (or you are running less than "Marshmallow") then there is no way to run the apps from the card.

To free up space you would then need to move things like photos, videos, music, etc., over to the SD card. Which can free up a lot of...

How to turn external SD card into internal storage on "Marshmallow".

NOTE: Please be sure you start with a blank SD card. It needs to be blank because when the card is converted to "Internal" storage, it will be formatted (wiped) and encoded (making the cards data only readable by that device).

1. Go to device “Settings”, then select “Storage”.
2. Select your "SD Card", then tap the “three-dot menu“ (top-right), now select “Settings” from in there.
3. Now select “Format as internal”, and then “Erase & Format”.
4. Your SD Card will now be formatted as internal storage.
5. Reboot your phone.

NOTE: If you don't reboot the phone, many things may not work correctly, so make sure you do.
