We are total novices and we hope someone can give us the steps for this: we are trying to add a Panasonic blu-ray to our LG 37" TV. The tv

Solution
It's working!

Thanks MUCH to Boosted1G (and to everyone else here)!

I finally got it working... here's what I did:

1. The DVD player's HDMI cable is now connected to the Switch #3.
2. The cable box HDMI cable is now connected to the Switch #2. (Switch #1 is empty.)
3. The first (of 3) cables that come from inside the wall is connected to the Switch OUTPUT.
4. The second (of 3) cables from the wall is (and always was) connected to the cable box.
5. That "mystery" cable (the third of the 3) is floating in mid-air connected to nothing (formerly it was connected to the Switch #1). I have no idea what this cable was for, and removing it seems to have no effect on anything I can see.

And now when I turn on the blu-ray the Switch...

You should be able to connect it via HDMI cable. Then depending on the port you will need to select that input/source from from your TV menu (changing source to connect to Blu-ray).

Thanks.

I have tried all the TV Inputs but none of them shows the DVD that's playing on the blu-ray. That's why we bought the switch (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JQP6PTK/ref=cm_sw_r_em_tai_cStEybVDWY6HB )

FWIW, This 37" LG is about 10 years old. Sadly, it still works perfectly<g>.
I guess back then there was no such Input called "blu-ray"
Thanks,

Alan

How do you have this all wired.

You should have all devices plugged in via HDMI to that swtich, then the switch to your TV.

Have you tried hooking the Blu-Ray straight to TV via HDMI cable to eliminate the switch as a source fo failure (j-tech is not a name brand by any stretch so faulty hardware is a good possibility).

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for taking the time to respond!

Let me try to answer your questions:

1. The switch is a "J-Tech Digital JTD3DSP0301 3-Port High Speed HDMI Switch with IR Wireless Remote and AC Power Adapter" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JQP6PTK/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It has 3 HDMI ports, and a single HDMI "output". Currently, I have the cable from the TV going into the switch's slot #1, and cable from the DVD recorder into slot #2, and a "mystery" cable (I havinto slot #3.

2. The switch is connected to a "mysterious" HDMI cable that comes out of the wall and was installed by the folks who hung the TV on the wall. (I'm guessing you guys will say that this is the problem?)

3. The TV is an LG 37LCD2D", circa 2007. The INPUT choices are " Antenna, Cable, AV1-2, Component 1-2, RGB-DTV (or RGB-PC), HDMI/DVI). (AV1, AV2,Component 1-2 input sources are linked automatically, Only if these are connected)". I have switched through each of these, but I all I see is static (except for the "Cable" choice).

4. Besides INPUT, there is another button on the remote. It's called "TV INPUT". I have not tried this yet. The manual indicates it "Rotates the input mode between Antenna and Cable. In AV12, Component 1-2, RGB-DTV (or RGB-PC), and HDMI/DVI input sources, screen returns to the last TV channel."

I would like to try to attach the DVD player cable to the TV HDMI port directly (not sure if that would even work?), but the TV was wall-mounted, and the single HDMI port is in the middle of the rear of the TV and it's so close to the wall I can't get at it.

Thanks again,

Alan

The "mystery" cable should be a cable going from the TV, then running down the wall to the bottom. Is this cable connected to the back of the TV, is this how it is connected or what is connected to the TV's HDMI port?

What is for sure a problem is what you wrote in part 1. You should have your input devices (DVD, cable box, game console etc connected to the INPUTs, and the cable coming out of the wall that is connected to your tv should connect to the port labeled as an OUTPUT. The box works by sending 1 of the 3 INPUTs to the OUTPUT port, the way you have described it is that you have everything hooked up to input ports and nothing to the output port and thus nothing is going to display.

In regards to 3 and 4 you need to be on the HDMI input on the TV.

If you get it properly wired and nothing still works then try to bypass the switch box and connect the HDMI cable that is plugged into the TV into the blu-ray box.

And now when I turn on the blu-ray the Switch automatically switches the picture over without me needing to change the INPUT on the TV (perhaps because there's only the one "HDMI choice"?).

I hope the above makes sense.

Thanks again for taking the time to help an old guy.

Alan
