how.do I brighten my Windows 7 hp laptop

My screen is so dark I can't see anything on my laptop

Look along the row of Function keys - just above the numbers at the top of the keyboard - and if you see two keys with moon and sun icons, press the Fn key (bottom row) and the sun key together.
