How do I connect a Visio 2.0 Sound Bar to an LG Google TV with optical audio outputs?

I have connected the optical audio outputs as it said and disabled the TV speaker but it does not find the sound bar at all. Can I also see the audio controls on the TV somewhere?

The TV and soundbar don't communicate with each other. There is no display for the soundbar either. The TV just sends digital audio to the optical input on the soundbar. You need to select this input with the soundbar remote and use that remote to adjust the volume since the TV output is fixed (TV remote will not adjust the volume for the soundbar).
