If your TV has an analog audio or headphone jack use that.
If your TV has a digital audio output then you will need a digital to analog converter to connect the TV to a receiver that only has L./R RCA analog audio inputs.

You certainly do seem to know what you are talking about!! I want to connect the audio from my LG Flatscreen TV with an available HDMI slot to a Sony STR -495 Receiver that has RCA input jacks on the front of the unit. Will a HDMI to RCA cable ( only need red and white as I don’t need video transmission) do it. Will I need a converter cable? Are there audio inputs on the back of the receiver that will also work? Thanks so much.
