How do I connect my iPhone to an Arcam 280. The usual way with 3.5 jack to phono doesn’t work.

It’s an Arcam280 amp. and an iPhone 7. That’s all I can say really.

Did you try any other inputs on the receiver? Volume turned up on the iPhone?

The Apple lightning AV adapter should work.

You could also connect a bluetooth receiver or Airport Express to the Arcam and go wireless..
