How do I connect my LG TV to my old Philips stereo?

The TV has optical digital audio out and the stereo has RCA input.

TV model: LG LW5700
5.1 stereo model: Philips HTS3152

TV has digital optical audio output.
Set the TV to activate this output and set it to PCM or stereo. You may have to turn the TV speakers off too.
Connect the optical out to an optical to analog converter with a Toslink cable.
Connect the converter to the aux input of the HTS with a standard RCA stereo cable.
Select that input on the HTS and a surround sound mode that sounds good to you.
