How do I connect my tv to my laptop with hdmi

I bought a pc laptop with Amd graphics and Amd processor and Radeon r5 is the graphics card and processor is Amd A8. I plug in the hdmi cable into the tv then the laptop and nothing happens. It worked on my last laptop, yes I did the Windows+P and selected duplicate and not working. I also went into the Amd catalyst control center and it searched for external monitors but it never found them. Same with the Intel one. Is it integrated graphics and there's no setting for that and I am SOL..? Or is my mobo shot?

Do you have the TV set to take input from the HDMI port you plugged into - It may simply be set to take input from cable or a different source
