How do I have my laptop recognize my new printer.

Uninstall your old printer software, then download the new printer software on hp website. Install it and reboot, that should be it.

This mean your laptop dosent have required printer driver. Install your drive from the installation dist provided with the printer or download it fromt he hp website by searching the model number. After sucessfull installation try print again.
