Does anyone know how to add Turion cpu support table to averatec 6240 bios. I have averatec 6420 bios . I also have a MSI M630 bios with Turion support. Even though both laptops have same motherboard, the Averatec 6240 does not have Turion support in bios. Thanks in advance. :)

Ok, For what it's worth I flashed MSI bios to Averatec. Worked fine. Didn't have to reinstall anything. Turion chip works perfect and a lot cooler. But now on start up sreen it shows msi megabook. :)

Hello, I know this is an old post so I hope you or someone who knows sees this. I have a Averatec 6240 with a Athlon XP-M 2800+ CPU and 2 GB RAM and replaced the Liteon DVD burner with a Sony and a 7200 RPM 160 GB HDD.. Which Turion processor do you use and will the computer run faster as well? Just trying to breathe some new life into an old machine that I really like. thanks

I no longer have this laptop, but I put a AMD Turion 64 Mobile CPU Processor ML 42 Socket 754pin processor in it. Run a lot cooler than amd xp chips. Also Install MSI M630 bios with Turion support. I maxed out the memory and installed win 7. Worked great.Had to hunt for drivers because I installed 64 bit. My neighbor had to have it, so I sold it to her. Go to ebay for parts, they are still fairly cheap. Good luck. :)

Thanks, I was looking on eBay but didn't know which CPU to get. This machine has been a work horse. I bought it in early 2006, took it to Iraq and Kuwait, then to Afghanistan in 2008. I've replaced some parts I bought on eBay to keep it going, like a new video display, still running XP though because I like Outlook Express which isn't available on my Windows 7 desktop. Now I'm in Korea and the machine just keeps on chugging along. I don't game so the video is fast enough for what I do. I maxed out the memory, now I have 2 2GB memory chips but the Averetec only recognizes 2 GB total and that is what it shows. Maybe the MSI 630 bios will also let me recognize the other 2GB that's there.

Thanks again,

Tom

I found a working 6100 on eBay and paid $50 for it. It is basically a stock machine. It's supposed to have the same mother board as the 6200 but is has the AMD Sempron CPU. If not I have an MSI motherboard that will fit in it that is already flashed with Tuirion CPU support.
