How to Cancel an Order from Etsy

Etsy is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell handmade and vintage items. It’s a great place to get one of kind items and great gifts, but if you purchase something and change your mind it can be a bit tricky to cancel your order. This is because the shops are run by individuals and not Etsy as a company. It is possible, however, in a few simple steps. (Keep in mind it is best to cancel an order before it is shipped as once it has been sent out it becomes a much more complicated process.)

Step 1
To cancel your order you must go into your purchases. You do this by clicking on your account icon in the top right corner, which will give you a drop down menu. Click the “Purchases & Reviews” option.

Step 2
On this page you will see a list of all your recent purchases. On the right of each purchase you will see a link that says “Request Cancellation.” When you click on this you should get a message box that allows you contact the shop owner. The “Request Cancellation” link is only available for two days after your purchase and before the item has been shipped, so make sure you do not wait to use it.

Step 3
When you get to the message box, just fill in why you want to cancel your order and hit send. From there it is up to the seller to cancel your order.

Step 4
If it has been longer than two days, you will have to message the seller directly and discuss your options.

Recap
Cancelling an order on Etsy is a bit more involved than on other sites, but it is still easy to do. Mostly it depends on good communication with the seller and getting your cancellation request in as soon as you can.
