How to connect a Dell Inspiron laptop 1545 to a Mitshubishi tv model 40164.

I am trying to connect a Mitshubishhi tv model Lt 40164 to a Dell Inspiron laptop 1545. I cannot get it to connect. The Dell has a VGA INPut and the tv has a HDMI INPUT. I do have an HDMI adapter to the tv and a VGA cord connected to the tv.Please help with this problem.

So to clarify, you have a VGA to HDMI adapter and you are using it? Of so, then go into display settings in windows and enable the secondary display.
