How to connect dvd player to 5.1

I have target dvd player and truwave home theatre system. Both have av pins in the back. I have conmected through av pins as per the mentioned specifications. But only left side speakers are playing. Other speakers not playing. Kindly provide me exact details.

Is the right channel audio cable connected to the wrong input on the HTS.
Reverse the left and right audio connections at the DVD.
If the right starts playing then it's either the DVD or the cable. Try another cable.
If the left still plays then the problem is the HTS.
Does the HTS work with other sources? Maybe it is bad.
