How to connect laptop to smart TV

hello, I have a advent 6301 laptop and I cannot connect it to my smart TV. I bought a VGA TO AV converter from eBay item code 201379532321 recently. But it dosnt work. So I connected my mini acer AMD emachine laptop to that device and it still didn't work. I even connected my old CRT TV to both laptops and it still failed to connect. Is the eBay item faulty? Or are my both laptops not compatible with the eBay device? Please help

Hi Sam,

Here's some step you might want to try.

1. Have the Smart TV set to AV or the what the TV is using to connect to the laptop.
2. On your laptop press the Windows + P at the same time once and should bring up and option on how you want to set the connection of your laptop to your PC.
3. You may select "Duplicate" or "Extended" depending from your choice.
