How to connect my soundbar to my TV and bluray player using Audio optical to RCA converter

I was given an LG soundbar with 2 audio optical outs, my TV has none, although I do have it connected to my cable box which has the correct connection. Problem is, I can't seem to connect to my bluray player an get sound from it. I have a Dynex audio optical to rca converter hooked up to the blueray from the soundbar...still no sound. bluray sound only comes out of the TV...what am I doing wrong? audio optical out from BR to converter, rca out to tv? the BR has hdmi and rca outs

Check the menus on the BD player. There should be place where you can select whether audio is output over HDMI or not. You write that the soundbar has 2 optical inputs so you would get better sound if you used an optical connection directly. If this does not work you can try one of these
