how to connect sound to my sound bar

i have a sanyo tv and just bought a sanyo sound bar i connected them by using the audio cord included in sound bar but i can still here the sound on my tv why?

Without model numbers we can't give you an exact answer.
On some TVs you have to turn the audio output on, the internal TV speakers off, and change the audio output type in the TV menu. Make sure you have selected the correct input on the soundbar. Check the owners manual.
