How to fix damaged jpg file

Hi,
I took a lot of pictures with my Nikon camera during my trip to the US and saved them in my laptop.Later I asked my cousin to send them to CDs and he did so.However when I got the CDs, I discovered that all the files were damaged. What can I do to restore them?Thank you.

Damaged, as a word tells us absolutely nothing. Do you get an error message trying to open them, did he compress them, did he use a computer that has a completely different operating system than yours? Would you please list what error message you got when trying to open the photos or cd you received?
