My laptop keeps saying, "diagnosing your PC" then says " preparing automatic repair" what should I do?

My laptop keeps saying, "diagnosing your PC" then says " preparing automatic repair" what should I do?

Is it Windows 8/8.1? If so, enter advanced setup and choose to 'Refresh my PC', it will remove all programs but keep user data.

If you keep regular backups or if you created a system restore disc, now would be a good time to use it.
