i have them connected via the 3.5mm headphone jack with a TOSLINK cable
(i read somewhere that SPDIF can't support 5.1 from bandwidth issues but it can be sent raw for the unit to decode, which i thought the AV would, it has dolby/dsp/dts supprt))
I can't find a surround option in AUDIO MIDI SETUP
VLC doesn't have any options in the audio menu either when i try to play a test file...
i tried setting the preset AV program
seriously annoying, i'm ready to get an external sound card if that's what i need
as a side note... getting the OS to output surround is the main problem, then i'd like to try and output surround from Logic Pro X... if possible
