how to hear a tack through head phones when fader is on low

when mixing two tacks how to hear either track in head phones before .when fader is on low . i cant hear the tracks to bring them in

I don't know what equipment you are using but pro mixers use a Pre Fade Listen switch which as it says allows you to monitor a track at full volume with the fader down.
