Long story short, I want to hook up my PS3 and PC to the same monitor and speakers. I've read countless articles and still haven't found out how to solve my issue.

I have a U2410 monitor. I connected my PS3 to the HDMI port and my computer to the DVI port. I can get sound from either the computer or the PS3, but not both. I would like to avoid buying two sets of speakers.

What is the easiest and most cost-effective means of solving this problem?

unless if your moniter has built in speackers or an audio line out plug, you wont get sound. i would go with buying a new moniter with built in speackers rather than a new tv because it will end up being cheaper. hope this answers. :)

The Dell U2410 has a 3.5mm audio output jack. Your computer should have the same 3.5mm jack. It's the green jack on the U2410 and your computer I/O panel. The HDMI cable will carry the audio from your PS3 to the Dell monitor. The Dell U2410 will convert the digital signal present on the HDMI to analog and route it to the analog audio output jack on the rear of the panel.

You need a audio switcher, commonly known as an A/B Box.

And a few 3.5mm Stereo (Balanced) Male to Stereo Male RCA cables. Determine the necessary length before you order.
This is a 12 ft version: http://amzn.com/B0016LFN2C

Route the audio as follows...

PS3 -> HDMI 1.3 cable -> Dell U2410 HDMI Input Jack -> find the 3.5mm Audio Out jack of the U2410 -> a 3.5mm Stereo to Stereo RCA cable -> Desired input channel of the switcher (Channel A)

Computer:
AUDIO: 3.5mm Audio Out jack of the computer -> a 3.5mm Stereo to Stereo RCA cable -> Desired input channel of the switcher (Channel B)
VIDEO: DVI output jack on your computer -> DVI Cable -> DVI Input of the U2410

Audio Components
SPEAKERS: Stereo RCA Output jack on the rear of the switcher -> a cable compatible with your speaker system, home theater receiver, etc. input
HEADPHONES: Utilize the built-in 3.5mm headphone jack on the front panel of the A/B switcher box.

Would you supply us with the model of your speaker system?
