Hi,

We got a new house and there's a RUNCO ceiling mounted projector which has a DVI-D (DL) and Component cables running through the ceilings and walls. Between the two I believe DVI has better quality, however the cable that is coming out of the wall is a male DVI-D (DL) cable. I'm planning to get a 5.1 surround sound system for the projector but it appears most AV Receivers now don't have DVI ports.

So I'm wondering if I can get a Male HDMI to Female DVI-D cable to connect the Receiver and Projector? And then run HDMI between Receiver and PS3/Xbox/PC for the input? Will this set up work?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your reply! And for the audio, it should be able to come out of the 5.1 speaker system when I use HDMI-DVI adapter? Since it doesn't carry audio?

DVI can output audio and has been able to for a while. Hence why would you just use a DVI to HDMI adapter work and won't carry audio?

It isn't a uncommen mistake to think DVI can't output audio.
