How to Manage Extensions in Firefox

Called plugins or add-ons in different circles, extensions are great ways to add new functionality to your Firefox browser. Some plugins can add important technical language to Firefox that the browser needs to understand audio and video files around the net, while other extensions can help block advertisements, change the look of Firefox, or add other features. Use the tips below to manage your add-ons.

Step 1
Click the Firefox menu button (the button with three horizontal lines) and select “Add-ons.” This action will launch the Add-ons Manager window, from which you can manage your extensions, visual themes, and plugins.

Step 2
To get to your extensions, select the “Extensions” tab from the sidebar on the left side of the Add-ons Manager window.

Step 3
You can change settings in different extensions by finding the extension you want to manage or edit, selecting “More,” and then finding and clicking the “Preferences” button. Keep in mind that not all add-ons or extensions have preferences you can edit.

Step 4
The Add-ons Manager will also allow you to remove, disable, or enable certain extensions if, for instance, a certain extension is causing incompatibility issues with a website you are trying to visit. To do this, open the manager, find the extension you are looking for, and click “Disable,” “Remove,” or “Enable,” depending on what you are trying to do.

Recap
Mozilla Firefox extensions can make the browser more powerful and useful. However, in order to truly have full control of your web browsing experience, you’ll always want to know how to turn those extensions on or off, or how to manage them overall. The above steps will allow you this kind of control.
