How to Mark up Images and PDFs Without Opening them in MacBook Pro

Continuing with the series of updates from Apple on their latest MacBook Pro, an awesome and efficient feature to have been added to the roster is the ability to markup i.e provide some basic edits to images and PDFs without having to open them. While these editing options are few in number, they can really save up the time when you need to place a quick signature on a PDF and mail it or when you need edit a series of images under a time constraint.

There are a quite a few such Quick Actions available for the preview panel such as crop, export, mark up, add text, etc. Follow the steps below to understand how to use these features to mark up images and PDFs in the preview panel and perform various other actions as well.

Step 1
Click on the ‘PDF’ and the preview window will open up on the right side of the Finder window.

Step 2
Using the ‘Mark up’ option in the preview panel you can mark any part of the pdf. You can also perform actions such as highlighting or adding your signature via the preview window, the options for these are available in the same toolbar. In order to add a signature your signature needs to available in the MacBook directory.

Click on the image and the 'Preview window' will open up on the right side of the Finder window.

Step 2
Select any of these options from the preview window such as ‘Mark up’ and you should be able to mark any part of the image without having to open either the file or any other editing application.
