Hi,

I want to set up the audio part of my amp to play audio from my HDMI connection (which'd be a laptop) and an external mike connected via red/white cables to AUDIO in. There used to be an option to do this on my older 683 amp, but I can't figure out how to do this now on the newer model. Maybe it's not possible?

Thoughts appreciated.

Regards, Greg.

If you meant that you wanted the picture from the HDMI and the audio from another inputs then you can do that if the receiver will let you select video and audio separately in the input set up menu.
You can't mix the audio from the HDMI and the audio from another input together.
Not possible.
Even if you got a preamp to connect the mic to a line level input there is no way to mix audio of any kind in AVRs.
You could connect the mic to the laptop and mic the audio there.
You might need some software to do that if you can't do it with the audio control of your OS.

Thanks for the response, appreciate it. It is possible, we had it set up this way on the previous model Yamaha, the 683. The set up menus are different on the 685, so we can't see the option. Will keep looking...
