One of the many incremental improvements Android Nougat brings with it is a more efficient Doze mode. Doze is Android’s automatic battery saving feature that cuts everything back to the minimum when the phone is stationary to eke more life out of a battery. Now it is even easier to optimize your battery with Android Nougat.

So easy in fact that you don’t actually have to do anything. The improvements with Doze are all in the code and bring some new features to the party. In Android Marshmallow, Doze kicked in when the phone was still. Nougat introduces battery saving while on the move too. It is estimated that the new Doze could improve battery life by anything up to 25%.

There are a few other things you can do to get more out of your battery. Here are just a few steps you can take to optimize your device.

1. Navigate to Settings and Battery to see what apps are using the most charge. Turn off those that you don’t need.
2. Turn on Battery Saving Mode while you’re there.
3. Turn email, Twitter and Facebook apps to manual polling or use Data Saver. This will save a significant amount of battery life.
4. Only turn on Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, LTE and GPS when you need them.
5. Turn off automatic brightness and lower the brightness of your screen. Balance the screen so it is bright enough to use but not at its maximum.
6. Monitor apps running in the background and stop them when no longer needed.
