How to recuperate information from old dirver

What was wrong with your hard drive?

I do not know.On my screen appear a big question marck.I took it to Apple and they change the hard drive and the battery.Yhey told me that I can recuperate my photo from my old one if I took it to some specialize people.I show it but they told me there was nothing to recuperate when they try .They heard a little noise and they told me......nothing to do
