You glossed over the most important factor in choosing a mouse and the difference between laser/optical. That is that though older, optical is more precise and accurate while laser requires special corrective software to maintain any sort of accuracy. Laser also has acceleration which is undesirable for gaming. For whatever asinine reason most "gaming mice" are laser, which all gamers should avoid. Optical is the superior mouse tracking tech.
