Step 1: The first step is to look up the codes for each of the devices you will be programming into your universal remote. Look in the instruction manual that comes with your universal remote. Inside you will find a listing of codes for all the major manufacturers of TVs, DVD players, etc. Usually, there is more than one code for each manufacturer.

Step 2: Using the universal remote, press and hold Code Search. Most remotes will flash a light, usually red, to let you know that you are ready to move on to the next step.

Step 3: Press the appropriate button for the device that you will be programming. If you are doing the TV first, press the TV button.

Step 4: Now, you will enter the three digit code that corresponds to the manufacturer of your TV.

Step 5: Release the Code Search button.

You can then test the remote to see if it controls the TV. It is possible that the code you put in the remote did not work. If so, move on to another code for the same manufacturer. Repeat until the device controls the TV. Repeat the sequence for your other devices.
