How to sync Harman Kardon sb15 sound bar with Sony Bravia tv?

Hi I recently bought a Harman Kardon sb 15 from a friend. I’ve been trying to sync the sound bar to the tv remote but I can’t seem to get past step one (the power button won’t turn Amber after I’ve put it in “learning mode”). Does anyone have a clue?

Step 2
Momentarily press the soundbar power button and it will turn amber.
That selects the power function as the one that will be learned and it turns amber. Then you do the same for the volume up, down, and mute buttons.
Sometimes you have to vary the distance and angle of the remote in relation to the soundbar.
