Hello,
I have an analog home theatre system 5.1 I am trying to add a powered sub woofer to it. Will it work if I add a splitter to the left channel input, running one side of the splitter into the input of the theatre system, and the other side into the powered sub woofer. or do you know a better way to do this?

First thing analog and digital have nothing to do with your problem. The sub may have a digital amp in it but the input is analog. Hooking the sub up at the input of the home theater system will give you bass but the volume will not adjust with the volume of the home theater since it is connected before the volume control. If the amplifiers for all the speakers are built into the sub then connecting another sub without modifying the inside of the sub. If the sub is connected with speaker wire to the main unit then you can get a speaker to line level adaptor and substitute the new sub for the old.
