Recently my laptop has been very hot even while idle(~90 C/190 F), and I haven't been able to play games at all as fps in game has been horrible. I have done a lot of things to try and fix this, including cleaning out the insides, factory resets, virus scans, all of which have not solved this problem.

My laptop is an hp pavilion dv6 2110ea
i7 720qm
gt 230m
8gb ram

So through a lot of trial and error and diagnostics, I found out that it was the fan that was broken. To be fair it had seen pretty heavy use for almost 4 years. Solution is get a replacement. There is a guide on youtube on how to take apart the dv6 2110ea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE6h0RiPFA8
Just remove the fan and replace with a new one. I found mine on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DAB0P6U. Bear in mind my link is for the model that comes with a Nvidia card and the fan for an AMD model is different.
If you don't have the tools, you will need a jewelers/electronics screwdriver kit, basically anything that has phillips size 0 and 00.
Again I found mine on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D3KUH66.
