Hp pavilion g7-2340dx SSD issues

I decided to volunteer my services and install a Samsung 860 Evo SSD into a coworkers HP Pavilion g7-2340dx laptop. I'm trying to run windows 8.1 and that's the basic overview of where everything goes wrong.

I cannot get the thing to run in this laptop. I've tested the SSD on my pc and it worked.

But on the laptop the uefi is absolutely trash. I cannot select ahci settings. And the laptop keeps switching between booting to recovery error 0xc0000225 and saying it's locked so I can't use the recovery media USB.

If I have the USB in (even though boot priority is given to the SSD) it still boots to the USB trying to install windows. Once it gets to the installation portion it doesn't even show the SSD as an option.

I'm at such a loss here. Any help would be awesome.

How about trying to clone the original drive to the SSD?

I did that as well. I don't have acronis, but I also don't plan on spending $50 for this either since I'm not getting paid.
