HP Pavilion (Windows 10) Is Not Detecting Wireless Networks

Hello,
Since this morning, my laptop hasn't been able to connect wirelessly to the Internet; my Wifi menu keeps telling me that no networks can be found. I know that my router is working because my other device (smartphone) is connected to my network, and the other members of my family haven't experienced any problems connecting to the Internet. Also, it was connecting to the Internet fine yesterday. Right now I am accessing the Internet by plugging the Ethernet cable into my laptop, but I am supposed to be able to access the Internet wirelessly.

I've read other questions and answers about this problem on this forum, but none of the solutions have worked for me (that, or I'm not doing them right, which is totally possible).

Please, can someone give me an answer. I am a student, and I need to use the Internet in order to access my assignments.

UPDATE: I have noticed that my WiFi symbol in the bottom right corner of my screen seems to have been replaced by an icon of a desktop monitor with a cable. I don't remember this happening before. I think this may have something to do with my problem; whenever I trouble shoot, it tells me to plug in an Ethernet cable, even though I was previously able to connect wirelessly.

When WiFi won't connect.

First, make sure your laptop is 'not' connected to the modem/router via an Ethernet cable and follow the steps:

1. Go to "Control Panel".

2. Next go to "Network and Internet" and then "Network and Sharing".

3. Now click on "Manage Wireless Networks".

4. On this screen, remove all wireless connections by "right clicking" on it and select "Remove network" from the drop down menu.

5. After doing this, close the windows and scan for the "Wi-Fi networks".

6. Click on the available network that you want to access and select "connect".

7. It takes a moment, but then you will be asked to give a password for your Wi-Fi connection. Type in the password and click the "connect" button.

It should now be connected.

NOTE: If this doesn't work, you may want to reset your modem/router, and then once it is fully loaded again, repeat the above steps.


If this doesn't work, you may want to check to make sure your WiFi card is actually working correctly. Try connecting it to another network, not your home one.

Thank you for the help, but I don't see "Manage Wireless Networks" in my "Network and Sharing" menu. I tried searching for it on my computer and came up with nothing. I couldn't find anything about Wifi or wireless networks in my settings either, it just keeps telling me that it can't find any networks. The Wi-Fi tab just disappeared.

Did you make any recent updates to the computer? If so, you might want to go back to a point prior to the update using a "System Restore Point".

This worked, thank you! I actually ended up doing a reset on my whole computer. I guess I download an app that messed up my wifi. Thanks again.
