HP Pavillionn dv9700 need to format HDD for clean windows 7 install.

I erased the HDD with DBAN and Windows began the installation messages but there is no drive to load it to in the setup. The driver file I got from HP is Intel Matrix Storage Manager. File name: sp39222.exe It's for the original Vista OS. I put it on a USB drive and browsed it but it didn't show up as installation media file (actually wasn't visible in the browse). Could that be because the original OS is Vista and I'm installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64? Or do I need another file or program?

If you want to do a clean install of Win 7, I would remove the hard drive, and reformat it. This can be done with a SATA to USB adapter, and by having the hard drive connected to another system externally.

Another option is to get a new hard drive as it will come formatted out of the box.

Great suggestion! I will see about purchasing an adapter right away. (I'm big on adapters). I will be something I can keep and use in my "little bag of tricks". This is a project laptop that I'm getting some practice in on. I've never wiped a drive like this and it came up this empty! Thanks again. Solved!
