I added MagSafe support to my Pixel 9 Pro because Google refused to — here’s how

The Peak Design case for Pixel phones is considerably more expensive but definitely worth it. Much stronger holding magnet.

A lot of the bootleg magsafe cases have the ring too high up. Many assumed the G logo should be in the center of the ring when the coil is actually further down. You can see what I mean with clear / smoke versions of many of these cases.

Find a case with the proper orientation of the ring and your charging issues will vanish.

Science or forget it. At least compatible Qi (and Qi2 charger.) Throw those 2D projections of 3-body problems on there and see if one magnet x oily glue combo can't conform to both standards. Then test reverse Qi charging with data backup. Harden against toddlers (shades of A Certain Magical Library S3.)

"I added MagSafe support to my Pixel 9 Pro because Google refused to — here’s how."

So basically, you added a case with a magnet built-in as millions have already done? And here I thought you had somehow put a magnet inside your phones body.
Also, if you can't use a glass screen protector due to curved edges, use one made of film. I have an antiglare one from Samsung on the font screen of my Z Fold6. It works great.

A lot of the bootleg magsafe cases have the ring too high up. Many assumed the G logo should be in the center of the ring when the coil is actually further down.

The author has a Pixel 9 Pro. The G should definitely be centered in the ring. (On the other hand, the Pixel P9P XL and Fold have their coils lower relative to their G logos.)

If you search the Pixel forums on Reddit, you'll see that plenty of people are having problems with the Pixel Stand 2 in particular, even with the ring positioned correctly. Meanwhile, other chargers, including the Pixel Stand OG, work just fine.

I have a P9P with 5 different models of wireless chargers, some MagSafe, some not, including several Pixel Stand OG and Stand 2 units. After experimenting with half a dozen MagSafe-compatible cases, as well as a couple styles of stick-on rings (and even modding them), I was able to confirm that the ring should indeed be centered on the G for the P9P, and that one of the cases I purchased works reliably with all of my chargers, including Pixel Stand 2:

What's interesting about this Torras case is that its ring is measurably greater in diameter than the rings of the other cases, and the "line width" of its ring is thinner. Despite this slight difference in geometry, the Torras case still holds my phone on my car's MagSafe mount without issue.

Unfortunately, the Torras case is so slippery that I'm afraid I'll drop my phone. I ended up using a heated jigsaw blade to melt some texture into the sides of the case.

Note that magsafe cases with chargers will block GPS reception. Verified this with P6P and P9PXL. Specifically, it's the combination of the magsafe case with charger that blocks it. The magsafe case alone doesn't interfere at all.
This of course totally sucks for usage in the car ...
