I am searching a non-gaming laptop for less then 1600$

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a laptop for my needs.

1.What is your budget?

<1600$ (it’s not necessery to spend all money if you recommended a less cheaper laptop)

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

15.6”-19” (17")

3. What screen resolution do you want?

Full hd;; 16:9

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

Portable

5. How much battery life do you need?

I want to use in the university, so the battery life is important for me (maybe the most important) I learn IT so I often to use my computer in the lesson.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

Not to much, but also like everybody I want to play games. I haven’t got a lot of condition about the settings (Low/Medium)

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

We learn a little bit about the photo/video editing and we use 3D animation programs, but I prefer the programming (C++, javasript, etc)

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

>500GB, I use RAID system for saving my data, so the capacity is not a most important thinks, but I want a fast, really reliable (good quality) hard drive (like Western Digital)

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

I want to know which laptops that you recommends need and I look around in my country for that.
I live in Hungary (Europe), so I prefer to buy my laptop in Europe, but It’s also good, If you recommend a campany in USA or Asia.
The delivery time isn’t important (even 1-1.5 months), but I don’t want to pay a lot of money for delivery. (maximum: 50$)

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

As long as possible, That’s mean 6-7 years at least, so I want a really reliable laptop even at the expense of the performance.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

I prefer the HP and DELL brands, Our family only have HP/DELL computers
Maybe ASUS/ACER or MSI
I don’t like LENOVO/SAGER/PACKARD BELL

13. What country do you live in?

Hungary (Europe)

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

The adapter jack need to compatible with the Eu power outlet standard.
Need at at least 4 USB (2.0 and 3.0)
(HDMI/wirefire for camera/photography)
(VGA/VDI)

Hello Finaria, welcome to Tom's.

The good news is that you will have a large selection of good Laptops to choose from for your budget, especially since you don't need a high end gaming solution (high end mobile gfx cards add hugely to the overall cost). Additionally, high-end gfx cards kill battery life.

Rather than specific laptops, I'll give you a few pointers:

Just (and only) to give you an idea of what internal components you can select, I would suggest having a visit to http/www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/2/ then playing about with a few Laptop configurations (use the 15.7" Optimus IV as a base).
You won't be buying from here (they are all Clevo/Sager - based) - but you'll get a good idea of where to aim for, component-wise, and (more importantly) how your 'ideal' build compares to off-the-shelf laptops (HP, ASUS,MSI, etc). This is actually a good tool to use.

I would then check out laptop/notebook review sites - one good one is http/www.notebookcheck.net/
Here, you'll get very valuable in-depth reviews that will provide much more information with which to base any purchase from....another good 'tool'.

I would also check out NVIDIA Optimus technology (e.g. Optimus IV above) - this prolongs battery life by switching to on-board gfx (rather than the dedicated card) - when the fgx load is light. It will switch back into the dedicated card when the load increases (alowing you to do some reasonable gaming).

1) Ausus, Toshiba, Samsung
2) Middle of the pack Sony followed by Dell
3) I do Not recommend HP or Acer (although Acer has improved)
NOTE Dell and HP do make some very reliable enterprise Laptops - BUT you pay for them.

Ivebridge laptops (i5 or i7-3xxx) come with a HD4000 iGPU with is OK for low end games, but Not good for Higher end games. So depends on what games where you need a dGPU.

Sorry for my late answer but I had a car accident and i spent 1 months in hospital.

You know i had a lot of free time (one months ), so I looked for some website. My opinion change in some specification and brands.
I also prefer the DELL and HP brands (you need to forgive it, it's my tenacity; i also know that it's not cheap) the Lenovo and Sony laptops also a good choice.

I just list my (wide) choice

I know that it's not a good list, so i need to narrow it, and looking for asus,toshiba, samsung laptops (RetiredChief)

I have some preference:
- wide screen (17")
- 7200 rpm HDD (if possibly), i don't need a SSD, (i can buy it later)
- I wrote that I don't need a good video card, (but now it change) I need to use some multimedia programs (card with medium details)
- now the battery life, it's not important (at least 2,5-3 hours)
-with the same budget (1600$/ 1100€)
