I've used the word frequency by position analysis for wordle solutions. Tried to pick the best first and optional second word based on summing the counts for a given letter in a position. Doing this my first word is SLATE with a sum of 1437. My optional second word is IRONY with a sum of 1033.

If SLATE gets 2 green or 3 yellow, I'll usually break away from using IRONY. In any case, I look closely at possible next words to pick ones with maximum new letters and use the overall list of remaining letter by overall frequency ROINUCYHDPGMBFKWVXZQJ or UCHDPGMBFKWVXZQJ. Ignore words ending in S and try to guess a word those Brits would choose.

I seem to average a 4 with some 3's
