I bought the hdmi cable to connect my tv with my computer but the tv wont recognize it

I conected the cable to the HDMI 3 channel but its not available for me to channel it on, since it says that there is no cable plugged in. My computer works perfectly, it even changed the screen mode. Is it that i cant connect my computer to my tv, ever?
