Solved! I cannot load windows XP on a gateway

windows XP w/n load on gateway Ta6/ 285 notebook. Does not see Hard drive? even b4 I get to the prompt to insert windows cd.

Does it have a new hard drive? Has the harddrive been formatted?

There's no prompt to insert windows CD...
If you want to reinstall windows, put the CD in the cd-rom and reboot the machine, it should then boot from the CD and give you the installation options.

If it doesn't see the hard drive in the installation dialog box then you have a problem. Refer to your Bios to check for any faults that might be reported.

If nothing you will need to find something like Hiren Boot CD to run some diagnostic and determine if your HDD is still working. If it's not, you'll need a replacement.
